"Razzle dazzle rose" evokes winter nights and moods of desolation and dejection. The words are equally stimulating: "courage, my love, will make me bolder/ Expected softness can lead to foolishness."
Lately I have failed at keeping up with all the new music. However, the other day I found some time to investigate/research/and listen to some fresh tracks. I stumbled upon the latest Atlas Sound song "terra incognita" (Latin for an unexplored or unknown land). Just reading the title of the song impelled me to hit it and listen. It was not in vain. This is a calming song that doesn't vary much in sound but who cares? Repetition is good when the sounds push you into a tranquil state. Check it...
I have no idea what she's saying but it sure sounds beautiful. Sometimes I can swear she's singing in Spanish. But I'm wrong. Ornella Vanoni is singing in Italian. Listen to this timeless song below...
"Lorelai" is one of my favorite songs on Fleet Foxes second full-length album Helplessness Bluesout May 3. It is absolutely beautiful. And once again I find myself wishing I could sing like Robin Pecknold. Robin holds his notes impressively. The echoe of his voice sticks to my ears like a magnet unwilling to let go. What magnets? Yes. The voice is attractive to my ears. For most of the day I have been listening to this song non-stop. This is probably the most uplifting song of the album in terms of sound. The lyrics... well, I'll have to look in to that. I'm still trying to figure them out.
"So guess I got old. I was like trash on the side-walk. I guess I knew why often it's hard to just sweet talk. I was old news to you then, old news, old news, to you ... then."
Sometimes it takes the shuffle button to help you uncover hidden gems in your ipod. Last night I turned on my device. Then a few songs later a Dum Dum Girls song came on called "lines her eyes" from their debut I Will Be. I'll be honest and say that until yesterday I usually passed up most Dum Dum Girls songs just because most songs were too loud-noisy-garage-rock (but with exceptional sound quality). And well most days I crave for mellow or electro-pop/rock music. So yesterday as I was quickly getting ready and "lining my eyes" I had no time to change a song if I disliked it. "Lines her eyes" started playing and lo and behold 1 minute into the song I fell deeply in love with it. If my ipod had only one functional button--the backwards button--I would have been completely satisfied because that's the only button that mattered to me saturday night. And not only do I love this song now but I found another reference to the album title. I get a kick out of finding the song (if it is not a title track) that inspired the musician(s) to brand their album with. In this case Dum Dum Girls chose the words "I will be" from track 9 and also chose it as the name for track 8. Lyric dive? I'm curious to see what's going on with this fascination for "I will be." Well until next time here's "lines her eyes":
"If she somehow beats me, gets to the top before me, I can't deny how angry I will be!"
